AI therapy notes

AI notes for therapists. You still sign them.

Record or upload a session and Citt.ai drafts the progress note in your template. You edit it, approve it, and the approved note feeds your next session prep.

Session note draft from transcription

How it works

From session to signed note in four steps.

Citt.ai is an AI scribe built for therapy, not a medical scribe pointed at a therapy session. It handles the documentation so you can stay with the client in the room.

  1. 1

    Capture the session

Record in the room with your microphone, capture a telehealth call with the Citt.ai browser extension for Chrome or Edge, or upload a recording afterwards.

  2. 2

    Get a transcript with speakers

The transcript separates therapist and client, so the draft knows who said what.

  3. 3

    Draft in your template

Citt drafts the progress note in the format you pick. Forgot to record? Type a short reflection and Citt drafts from that.

  4. 4

    Review, edit, and sign

Drafts stay drafts until you approve them. After approval, later edits create a new signed version and the earlier one stays in the history.

Note formats

Your format, not a generic summary.

Pick a built-in structure or upload a note you already wrote. Citt learns its headings and length, and drafts new notes the same way. Behavioral health prompts keep risk and safety language in the note for your clinical assessment.

Deep-dive guides: DAP notes, BIRP notes, and GIRP notes.

SOAP

Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan.

DAP

Data, Assessment, Plan. Short and fast.

BIRP

Behavior, Intervention, Response, Plan.

GIRP

Goal-led, for treatment-plan progress.

Psychodynamic

Process, themes, and the relationship.

Your own

Upload an example note and Citt follows its shape.

Scribe or co-pilot

A note is the start of the work, not the end.

Most AI scribes stop once the note is filed. In Citt.ai, approved notes build a summary of the client since the last session and a timeline across sessions, assessments, and check-ins.

Session content is health information. Citt.ai treats it that way from capture to signed note.

What are AI therapy notes?
AI therapy notes are progress notes drafted by software from a session recording, transcript, or short summary. The therapist reviews and edits the draft, then signs it. In Citt.ai nothing reaches the client record until you approve it.
Which note formats does Citt.ai support?
Built-in SOAP, DAP, BIRP, GIRP, psychodynamic, and intake structures. You can also upload an example of your own note and Citt drafts new notes in the same shape. See the therapy progress note template guide for examples of each format.
Do I have to record the session?
No. If you did not record, or the client did not consent to recording, type a short reflection after the session and Citt drafts the note from that. Reflections stay private to you and are not shown to the client.
Is Citt.ai HIPAA compliant?
Citt.ai offers a Business Associate Agreement to United States practices. Client data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with role-based access and audit logging. Uploaded audio is processed and not intentionally retained. Details are on Trust & Safety and in the HIPAA checklist for AI scribes.
Does the AI write the final note?
No. The AI writes a draft. You decide what goes into the record. Read more about how AI progress notes fit into a clinician-led workflow.
Can I use Citt.ai alongside my current EHR?
Yes. Many practices start with Citt.ai for notes and session prep while their existing system stays the billing hub. See Citt.ai for therapists for the full workflow.
